It's What We Do:

The Signal Group is a diverse specialty electrical contracting firm. We perform a variety of work related to traffic and transportation while specializing singularly in a unique class of electrical construction work for the civil heavy highway construction industry. In the last 2 decades we have played a vital role in the construction of some of Southeast Florida’s most notable and robust transportation infrastructure projects.

Something To Be Proud Of:

Where it all Started My parents started the Signal Construction Company in Jacksonville Florida back in the late 1960’s. My father, Don Copeland Sr. decided that they would relocate the family and the business to a sleepy little town in northern Palm Beach County in 1971. Although we have changed our name to The Signal Group, years later we remain headquartered in Jupiter, Florida. We have yet to stray very far from the core business principals of our founders.

We’ve grown, thanks to a bountiful industry with unprecedented opportunity as well as the faith, dedication and hard work of our employees. Today, our enviable client list reads like a who’s who of the construction industry. Our employee group is comprised of 160 men and women, working out of our branch office operations in Melbourne, Fort Pierce, Jupiter, Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

About President Don Copeland Jr.

Mr. Copeland is a second generation owner. A capable and experienced construction business manager and a good steward of his family’s former business, he has carefully chosen the executive management team helping him run the business today and totally credits his key employees with the company’s successes. While he remains focused on the financial strengths, organizational development and providing just the right balance of inspiration and resource, they drive most of the company’s day to day decision making processes.


Prequalification:

SGI qualifies under Rule 14-75 and work classes, 6.3.1, 6.3.2 and 6.3.3 with an FDOT maximum capacity rating of $200,500,000.

Capabilities and Work Load:

SGI is in a unique position to serve project needs throughout the state because our resources are locally available along Florida’s East Coast. SGI’s current in-house capacity is over $33 million in sales per year.

Performance on Past Projects:

SGI has consistently achieved a maximum value of 14/14 on all FDOT performance ratings and almost exclusively exceeds this by maximizing bonus points offered on jobs. SGI has an overall outstanding rating of 20/14. Our strategic approach and automated tracking abilities for projects, beginning in the design phase and ending with final integration, have proven to be a successful formula for on-time delivery of quality construction every time.

Litigation and Dispute Record:

SGI has minimal incidents of litigation or formalized disputes against the FDOT, or its subsets, in its history.

Environmental Record:

The Signal Group’s environmental compliance record is unmatched in this industry.

Financial Strength:

SGI has a strong financial position that has been proven year after year with the ability and extensive record of accomplishment of bonding, executing, and bearing the financial responsibilities on all projects to date.

Safety Record:

SGI employs risk management on all projects. Our approach implements hazard assessment, mitigating risk through numerous control measures, and constantly re-evaluating risks during design and construction phases. Our record of litigation is at an all-time low as described by our Experience Modification Rate. This full circle approach to safety allows SGI to show a continual trend towards safety. Our workers’ compensation coefficients have been lower every year for the past six years running.
